Avengers: Infinity War Review (spoilers)
When I was home on leave, my father and I went to see the long anticipated movie. The Avengers: Infinity War was alright, but I think I had more problems with the movie than not. I am not saying it was not enjoyable to say the least, but much of it almost seemed irrelevant. Overall it did not feel like an Avengers movie. Some of the Avengers were barely in it. The bulk of the plot revolved around Thanos.
What I liked: The movie was well made as most Marvel movies are. The acting is good and the CGI is stellar. Thor was excellent in this movie (very similar to the Thor Ragnarok feel). Chris Hemsworth does not disappoint. Guardians of the Galaxy were another element of the good guys I thoroughly enjoyed. Of the good guys, they were probably the most relevant characters, especially with Gamora's relationship with Thanos.
What I didn't like: I felt like the creators were trying to get you to Empathize with Thanos. What would you have done in his position? Same reason I would like to think I wouldn't have done what Hitler had done in his position. I understand that Hitler was very real and truly evil. Thanos may be a fictional character, but ultimately he is evil as well. You can't justify committing mass genocide just because you can achieve the power to do so. Thanos was also talking about how it somehow helps exterminate the bad people of the population and you have to sacrifice some innocent people to accomplish that? Or something? It does not make sense. Chances are you're still going to have rampant evil in the world and nobody holds the right to deal life and death for the masses. Nothing about Thanos made me feel remotely sorry for him. I hope the creators were not using this to push political ideologies upon the audience because I would find that quite unsettling.
I also have some grievances against the end of the movie. A random half of everyone dies because Thanos snaps his fingers. The whole movie built up to that for almost 3 hours. Those who die disintegrate and you're probably supposed to feel sad. My dad and I, however, were not sad. My dad and I are not idiots. We know some of those characters have upcoming movies slotted for them. I feel like the makers were trying to force sadness upon the audience, but I'm not going to feel it if I know that those characters really aren't dead.
Overall it was an okay movie, but it felt like it was biding time. Some parts were intense, but it did not feel like it built up for the second part the way it was intended to. They could have easily made the movie just as good and shorter. I also feel like many of the characters were in there for the sake of being there. Maybe they were trying to justify "The Avengers" title. These are my thoughts on the movie, feel free to comment yours below.
